Modder Beautifully Recreates ‘Mystic Cave Zone’ For Sonic Mania

If there’s one thing that Sonic Mania could of done with, it would be more stages. As a Sonic fan, I was disappointed that some of my favourite classic stages never made the cut. Well that’s not the case today because Sonic Mania modder campbellsonic has just created one of my favourite levels from Sonic 2, Mystic Cave Zone.

Normally when you see Sonic Mania mods, their just simple colour palette or character swaps. Not this one, no no.

campbellsonic did such an amazing job with Mystic Cave Zone, it almost feels as Sega did the job themselves. First off, the music is spot on and feels like a genuine Sonic Mania remix. All the gimmicks from the level are here. The swinging vines, the moving platforms, the opening and closing drawbridges are all in working order. Visually the stage looks identical to the original, the flickering laterns and the green shrubbery are all how you remember it. To top it off, there’s even a boss at the end of the Act!

Another impressive feature is that Knuckles can break one of the walls, revealing his own separate pathway. This just shows how much detail went into this mod.

I can’t wait to see what mod campbellsonic does next, Ice Cap Zone maybe? Please?
