Run Rings Around Your Friends With This Sonic Mania Watchface

Here at SSVG, we like to shine a spotlight on the community and their creativity. This time we’re taking a look at watchfaces. As a previous owner of a Samsung Gear S2, I was always on the app store trying to find game related watchfaces. I would search the app store all night and day hoping to find a decent gaming watchface, but to no avail. Stumbling on Reddit, I found a user by the name of ErickJail who has created a Sonic Mania themed watch face. The design was quite distinctive, I just had to share it.

The design shows the time, date and step counter in the style of Sonic Mania’s scoreboard. At the bottom, Sonic’s lives are displayed which represents how much battery the watch has left. The background stage will change every 3 hours and the stage will reflect on the real world’s time. Sonic also spin dashes around the watch like a loop-de-loop, very slick animation.

It took ErickJail a day to make the watchface using Samsung’s Galaxy Watch Studio, After Effects and Photoshop. ErickJail also stated “I probably won’t be adding any more functions to the watchface, but I would like to do another watchface based only in Green Hill Zone and change the look of the stage based on time and weather.” 

Due to copyright issues, the watchface cannot be downloaded from the Samsung Galaxy Store. ErickJail has instead compiled the watchface into a gwd file. Samsung Galaxy watch users can tweak and use this watch face. Link for download is here.
