Back in November, Capcom suffered a large security breach within their network. The breach revealed a bunch of games in development for the next 4 years. While unconfirmed, sources close to Capcom have told multiple publications that the information is genuine.
One game has been revealed recently which could confirm the validity of this list. The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles which was only released in Japan is now coming to Nintendo Switch, PC, and PS4. This game was part of the data breach and pretty much no one knew if this game would ever make it to the west.
We decided to take a look at the leaked the game list. As always take this leak with a pinch of salt.
The original Dragon’s Dogma released in 2012 on the Xbox 360 and PS3. The game was hack and slash with action and RPG elements added in. It was met with critical acclaim but never spawned a sequel. Producer Hideaki Itsuno did mention a possibility of a sequel in an interview back in 2012. Now is a better time than ever for a sequel due to the exceptional power of the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
In the leak we get not one version of Street Fighter 6 but 3 iterations of the game. This is a fairly standard Capcom practise and I personally believe this will happen but over the span of 6 years. Nevertheless, Street Fighter 6 is highly anticipated by fighting games fans all over the world. There seems to be some internal struggles with Capcom with this title as Capcom leaker Golem tweeted this.
However, with more added development time and a new team on board, Capcom have the ability to make Street Fighter 6 the best fighting game this generation.
A new Mega Man game is set to launch in the third quarter of 2022. Going off the name, all we can do it speculate. It could be a remake, a collection or an entirely new Mega Man game. The last game from the franchise was Mega Man 11 which released back in 2018. The game received positive reviews praising the games design and visuals.
Even before the data breach, there were talks about a Resident Evil Remake 4. Capcom has already revisited and remade Resident Evil 2 and 3, so the next logical choice would be 4. According to one of the leaks “Capcom’s production team is said to prefer a direction which would see RE4’s remake inspired by the original, but with its own unique take on features, story elements and environments not necessarily confined to the blueprint of the original.” That being said, the remake will not be a straight up port of the original and will have its own identity.
This one is sure to please the Sega fans. A new Power Stone game is rumoured to be in development. The 3D arena fighting game first originally launched on the Sega Dreamcast back in 1999 and became an instant hit for the console. It spawned a sequel just one year after, increasing the player count to 4 players. The last entry of the series was Power Stone Collection on the Sony PSP in 2006. It was an enhanced port of the original two games. We hope that the new remake stays faithful to the original game as it would be a breath of fresh air for fighting games.
The granddaddy of all beat em ups, Final Fight, could be getting a new game. While we’ve seen the characters appear in the Street Fighter and Marvel vs Capcom series, we haven’t seen them star in their own game since 2006. The last game was Final Fight: Streetwise on the PS2 and it was an absolute stinker. Capcom has put the franchise on hold for a long time but it looks to revive the iconic series. With the technology the new consoles possess, we could get a compelling story told in the grimy streets of Metro City once again.
Is this even a question? Of course Monster Hunter is getting a sequel. Capcom announced last year that the series is one of their best-selling franchises of all time. Monster Hunter World shifted a whopping 16.4 million units as of September 2020. What can we expect from a new Monster Hunter? Bigger worlds to explore and large amount of monsters to slay, that’s for sure.
Capcom seem to hell bent on reviving their old beat em ups. The original Captain Commando was released in arcades in 1991 and is fondly remembered by arcade goers. It received a port on the Super Nintendo and Playstation 1. There have been no games since the arcade release with the exception of cameo appearances in the Marvel Vs Capcom and the Capcom cross-over games. We could see a fully reimagined action game with a new story or possibly another 2D style beat em up.
The cult classic sword hack and slash game, Onimusha, is due to return. The series debuted on the PS2 and managed to conjure up three games before going on hiatus. A remaster of the first game Onimusha Warlords, was recently released for last gen consoles and could be seen as a test by Capcom to see if there was still interest in the franchise. Well, it looks like it passed as a new game is slated to come out in the future.
The last few games are Resident Evil related but we have nothing else to go on other than the title.
