Few weekends ago whilst visiting Milton Keynes, I stumbled across an extraordinary place in this day and age… an arcade. No, not one of those ones where you have a bowling alley with those claptrap machines that spout out tickets to buy meaningless junk, but a REAL arcade full of anomalies from the 80’s and 90’s.
The venue is called Pixel Bunker. Located at Lloyds Court shopping village conveniently located just outside the main shopping mall (thecentre:mk). The area has multiple parking spaces and has lots of food choices should you get hungry.
Upon entry you are greeted by some stairs that lead you up to the main floor. There you can purchase a ticket for a time slot which allows a few hours of unlimited play on ALL the arcade machines.
The arcade was fairly busy on the weekend that I went, but I was still able to play everything I wanted. It’s about a 3 minute wait if someone’s using a machine. School holidays is where I can imagine it gets busy. If you want a quiet session, weekdays and evenings would be best.
The arcade spouts a variety of different machines through the eras of yesteryear. You have your classic 80’s games like Arkanoid, Pac-Man, Space Invaders and Donkey Kong. Then we have shoot em ups such as Time Crisis, House of the Dead which is great with a friend. Then we come to my personal favourite, the Sega arcade machines. Super Hang On, Outrun and of course Space Harrier. I must have spent at least 30 minutes trying to complete it.
If you are ever in Milton Keynes and you have the itch to play some retro games, be sure to check Pixel Bunker out. More details can be found on the official website https://www.thepixelbunker.com/
